Gachiakuta Tops Crunchyroll’s Summer 2025 Rankings, Kodansha Reports
Kodansha’s official Gachiakuta World X (formerly Twitter) account announced on September 30 that the dark fantasy anime ranked first in Crunchyroll’s July season viewership charts. The series, which premiered on July 6, is confirmed to run for two consecutive cours spanning the Summer and Fall 2025 seasons.
At the time of writing, neither Crunchyroll nor the English Gachiakuta X account has confirmed the ranking, and the platform’s method of measuring viewership remains unclear. (Netflix, for instance, uses hours viewed divided by runtime as its standard metric.)

Nevertheless, the popularity of the anime is quite clear. The first episode of Gachiakuta received more than 80,000 likes on X, more than the premieres of other sequels that were expected to attract audiences, including My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 (59,000) and Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 (49,400). Although the interest levels did decrease a little by the mid-season finale, the series still enjoys enormous accolades due to its bold art, likeable characters and dynamic storytelling.
Comparatively, Netflix, a competitor with The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity a competing Summer 2025 project, said 13.2 million hours watched globally (as of October 3), after it launched internationally on September 7.
Based on the manga by Kei Urana (story, art) and Hideyoshi Andou (graffiti design), Gachiakuta is directed by Fumihiko Suganuma at Bones Film. The anime follows Rudo, a boy cast into a monstrous wasteland after being falsely accused of murder. Armed with a mysterious new power, he joins the Cleaners, vowing to fight not only the creatures of the Pit but also the corrupt society that condemned him.
